What's for Dinner or Lunch?!?!

Can you tell what we are going to have?!?
It is a good thing this artist is so good it probably made it really easy to guess.
The signs are telling you Fresh Shrimp (Reker) and New Caught Crab.
The boats head out to the North Sea early in the morning. They have crab traps that they put fish into then, the crabs crawl into the traps and can't escape. They use nets to get the shrimp.
They return to the harbor in the early afternoon and begin to sell their goods. Sometimes they have fresh fish also. They cook the shrimp and crabs in big boiling pots right on the boat.

You go right up to the boat and buy the shrimp and crab. Of course the problem that arises is that usually the fisherman doesn't speak any English and my Norwegian is terrible. So with alot of pointing and broke Norwegian they sell it to me by the kilo.
They have picnic tables so if you just want to buy, sit and eat that works also. They also sell ice cream in a little shed right to the side of it. They sell ice cream everywhere here.
These are the signs that advertise for the goods. They just place these signs out into the streets

The above sign says that it is large shrimp.
This one tells you that it is large and caught today!!

These boats are only about a 2 minute walk from my house. I have in my mind an easy great dinner. I will serve it with French Bread, soft cheese and Salad. Oh Yum!! So I grab my wicker shopping basket and head off towards the boat. I am thinking great I won't even have to work hard fixing dinner tonight. I have a song in my heart and a lightness to my step thinking how great this is. Then suddenly I STOP something is very wrong!! I rack my brain trying to remember what is wrong. You see I am getting old and have a tough time remember things like this!! Then a very dark feeling comes over me it is a feeling of extreme disappointment. The fog begins to clear in my brain and slowly but surely the thought comes to me.
MY FAMILY DOESN'T REALLY LIKE SEAFOOD!!
Drats!! It is when company comes that I skip off the boats for shrimp and crabs!!
SO WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE COME VISIT ME SO I CAN HAPPILY SKIP OFF THE THE SHRIMP BOATS!!
Now I have to figure out what to do for dinner!!

OUT MY DOOR TODAY

Guess what was outside my door this morning?
(With my photograph skills the grass is in focus and the critter isn't, but you get the idea!! Actually I was so worried that he would take off I hurried, But then Alex told me how slow they can move hey but like I said at least the grass is in focus!!)

This morning when Alex got up to let the dogs out(yes we have an extra dog for a couple of weeks. Alex Dog sits and gets paid 130 Kroner/$25.00 a day. My kids couldn't work here because of work permits and the language so we started a dog sitting business. It has provided well for my kids and their expenses over the past few years) So anyway back to the story. She went to let the dogs out and we had a visitor in the front yard. A Norsk critter. A HEDGEHOG. They are everywhere here but this is the first we have ever had one in our yard. He is a cute little thing. He would roll up in a ball and make a thumping sound. It was probably his heart because he was scared to death of this crazy thing that had something that kept flashing a bright light. He would get curious though and stick his head out to see what I was doing.

Below is my home. We live in 2/3's of the house. It was originally built in 1736 or close to that time. In it's early days it was a tavern/lodging house for people who had been traveling by boat on the North Sea. It has been in the Monson family the entire time!!

For the first time ever in The Stavanger Branch ( our church) we have started the early morning Seminary program( a religion class for youth 14-18)for the youth. The English speaking kids have been participating for a couple of year but this year we raised the bar. We have 16 students, 4 teachers (two who teach in English and two who teach in Norwegian) We meet at 6:30 at the church and have our opening together then divide into English and Norweigan speaking classes. On Thursday we do combine and teach in the English language. On Friday we all do Scripture mastery together. There is a great spirit of unity (we are bringing two different cultures together to be united) and they seem to be having fun. On Friday a parent brings in Breakfast!! That's the part they all like the most. Notice the mural on the wall in the back of this picture. Our primary room was rather dull so a member of our branch who is an incredible artist painted this mural. It depicts the creation and Christ with children on his lap.

I am setting out on my front step and wondering how many people have climbed these rock steps and from where they have traveled from over the last couple of hundred years. The sun is shinning today!! When the sun shines you have to get out and enjoy it because very soon it will be dark and rainy. In winter the sun(if it comes out) will rise at about 9:00-9:30 in the morning and set at 3:30-4:00 in the evening. So when the sun shines you partake of it! I hope that you all have a great day and a good weekend. See you Monday

Scenes from my window

What do you see out of your window?!?! We can see the world from many different angles just by looking out our windows. Below are some of the many things that I see out of my window everyday. Have a look!!

Apple blossoms on a tree right outside my kitchen window with the habor in the background. My daughter Alex playing with her dog ROOSTER!! She loves him with all of her heart!!
At storm is brewing over the habor. Storms come in very quickly off the sea and move out just as quickly!! Of course there are those days when they stay and stay and it rains and rains!! It is never bad weather here in Norway you just have bad clothes if you get wet!!!!
It had just snowed the morning that I took this picture!! This is a very famous statue of these two girls. Someday soon I will tell you their story.

I hope you enjoyed the view from my window!! I also hope that you will enjoy my blog. I am going to try to share with you both of my worlds. Sometimes it is crazy trying to go back and forth between the two but it also keeps life fun and exciting. I am very blessed to be able to live in two different worlds.
