In some places in the world the mail is slipped through your door, delivered at the end of your lane, or put in a box on your front porch. In Norway the postie drives a little red truck and does it many different ways also. The above pictures shows a group of mailboxes for our neighborhood. They are attached to our rock wall that surrounds our yard.

Some get really fancy with theirs.
When someone moves they just remove their box
There really isn't a perfect spot for the mailboxes. They are just put where it works best.
Sometimes it amazes me how they get them to hang. Notice the white one tied with string or wire!
This guys is nailed up to a tree at the end of his driveway. Maybe he doesn't want us to know he gets mail or where his box actually is!!
But in some areas, the postie pulls up and there are a whole bunch of boxes for everyone who lives in that area. They drop the mail in and the you go to this central location to get your mail. If we were living some place warm it really could be a neighborhood gathering spot. But most of the time (when I am here and not in Wyoming) it is rainy so everyone runs to their box quick and then goes on their way!!
I just love to see the different types and how they are hung, and displayed!!

Yep, our neighbor has a painting of a hedgehog on her mailbox. Thanks for sending me the link to your blog, Shauna! Looking forward to the pictures from your trip to Scotland.

Great post! You sure got the hang of this blog thing quick! I want to put up a new mailbox so our mail doesn't get wet anymore! It's got a rusted out bottom and the top flips up in the wind. I like the one with the little red house!
